Lesbian Pregnancy

We are proud of being one of the first Northern California fertility clinics to provide In Vitro Fertilization for lesbian partners.

Lesbian pregnancy, also known as same-sex female pregnancy, refers to the process by which a woman in a same-sex relationship becomes pregnant and carries a child to term. With advancements in assisted reproductive technologies and societal acceptance, lesbian couples now have various options to fulfill their desire to become parents.

From a practical standpoint, lesbian pregnancy differs from conventional In Vitro Fertilization only in the need to use donor semen. This will most commonly be a frozen semen sample from a sperm bank. The rest of the treatment is identical to conventional In Vitro Fertilization.

Another option for lesbian pregnancy is reciprocal IVF treatment.

In reciprocal IVF, one partner contributes eggs and is genetically related to the child (Genetic Mother). The other partner receives the embryo and is biologically bonded to the child through pregnancy (Birth Mother). In this way, both partners contribute profoundly to their pregnancy.

Beyond the physical aspects, lesbian pregnancy also involves important emotional and legal considerations. Both partners may experience a range of emotions throughout the journey, from excitement and anticipation to anxiety and stress. Open communication and support between the partners are crucial during this time.
